City of Oak Harbor is Hiring a Bus Driver Near Oak Harbor, WA

Responsible for driving a City of Oak Harbor vehicle for the recreation department travel programs, including older adult trips. Trips are conducted throughout the year and may include winter driving, evenings and weekends. The position is within the Parks and Recreation Department and works under the supervisory direction of the Recreation Manager.
 
It is anticipated that this position will work appropriately two to three 10-hour shifts a month with no more than thirty (30) hours a month.Work activities involve multiple skills and may include, but are not limited to, any of the following depending on area of assignment, program needs, emergency services, special projects, and seasonal factors:
1. Driving program participants, volunteers and staff to and from day trips and occasionally overnight trips within Washington, Oregon and Canada. 
2. Assist recreation staff and volunteers on trips with ensuring passenger comfort and safety. 
3. Operate an ADA lift on the vehicle and assist passengers who may have disabilities and may need extra care and attention with boarding and exiting the bus.
4. Keep vehicle clean and maintained ready for operations at all time.
5. Perform and document regular safety checks on the vehicle before and after each trip. 
Associated Job Functions:
• Fill-in for Recreation Leaders as needed, including acting as a site manager, or for recreation program support.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Performance Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
• Ability to enter Canada. 
• Ability to provide a friendly demeanor and patient personality.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions may be considered.
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Three (3) years of a valid driver’s license in good standing.
• One (1) year excellent customer service skills experience.
• Must have or obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within three (3) months of employment.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to provide a driver’s abstract showing a good driving record to be maintained for continued employment.
• Valid international travel documentation for travel.
• Complete a comprehensive background screening to include credit check to be bonded and Washington Child and Adult Abuse background screening.
The physical demands and characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of those occurring in the performance of the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.
 
Work performed requires normal visual and hearing acuity, standing and walking for extended periods of time, as well as an ability to move items up to 25 pounds. Client activities such as walking and assisting clients may be required as well as travel to other locations. This is a very part time position. There are usually 1-5 trips each month which usually take place within the state of Washington and are often between 9:00am and 9:00pm. There are occasionally overnight trips and the possibility of travel to Canada.
