The Community Development Department is seeking one full-time Senior Planner to join the team! This position will perform various professional work in the field of current and/or advanced local government planning, including zoning and planning administration, and environmental review, amongst other highly complex planning projects or programs.
Selection Components:
Application Evaluation: This position will remain open on a continuous basis with the first review on February 20, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. or until 150 applications are received whichever occurs first. Candidates are required to submit a resumefor the application package to be considered complete. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an oral interview.
Oral Interview: Tentatively scheduled for March 13, 2024. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future full-time vacancies as they occur.
Schedule:
- This position may work a 5/40, 9/80, or 4/10 schedule.
Career Path: This is the fourth and advanced-journey level classification in the professional Planner series and is flexibly staffed with the Associate Planner classification. The Senior Planner performs the full range of duties with limited instruction or assistance and has complete knowledge of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. The Senior Planner is distinguished from the Associate Planner by the depth of experience and responsibility for more highly complex and substantial planning projects, conceiving planning programs, developing analysis and work methods, and supervising the work of subordinate professional, technical, and clerical staff members.
Retirement:
The City offers an excellent benefits package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 13% of pay toward retirement costs.

Senior PlannerA combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three years of responsible professional urban planning experience.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning, public or business administration, or a related field.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
