Currently there is one part-time vacancy in the Recreation and Senior Services (RSS) Department. The RSS Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of 11 facilities, 34 playgrounds, 46 outdoor sports courts and sports field amenities throughout the Newport Beach park system. This position actively engages in the RSS maintenance program to ensure safe and well-maintained facilities and parks for the use of the public. This position also provides support to the RSS Department’s mission in offering quality recreational programs, events and services for people of all ages.

Selection Components:
1. Application Evaluation: This position will remain open on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on November 29, 2023, OR until 150 applications are received, whichever occurs first. Qualified applicants will be invited to an online exam.

2. Online Exam: Tentatively scheduled for theweek of December 4, 2023. Top scoring applicants will be invited to a virtual interview. 
3.  Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for theweek of December 11, 2023. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future part-time vacancies as they occur.  

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Six months of custodial experience is required.

Education: Completion of formal or informal education at a level that provides the ability to read and write at a level required by the job.

License or Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.

The prospective candidate must successfully complete a thorough background review, including being fingerprinted by the Newport Beach Police Department. The resulting report of your conviction history, (if any), will be evaluated along with the other information received in connection with your application. Except as otherwise required by law, a criminal conviction will not necessarily disqualify you from the position. The nature, date, surrounding circumstances, and the relevance of the offense to the position applied for may, however, be considered.

Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach Employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.
