City of New Orleans is Hiring a Traffic Signal Technician Near Orleans, LA

The city of New Orleans dept. of Public Works is looking for a Traffic Signal Tech to join our dedicated team! As a City Traffic Tech, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair traffic signal equipment, including traffic lights, controllers, detectors, and communication systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning lenses, replacing bulbs, and inspecting wiring to ensure proper functioning of traffic signal systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and mechanical issues with traffic signal equipment using testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and emergencies to address traffic signal malfunctions and restore functionality.
  • Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and stakeholders to schedule maintenance activities and minimize disruptions to traffic flow.
  • Conduct regular inspections of traffic signal installations to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventory, and work orders using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or other tracking tools.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of traffic signal upgrades and improvements, including the installation of new equipment and the integration of advanced technologies.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, advancements in traffic signal technology, and best practices for traffic management to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

Requirements:

  • One year of full-time experience in the field of servicing or installing electrical equipment devices.
  • OR : Completion of a course in Basic Electricity or electronics from a recognized trade school

Note: Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
