City of New Orleans is Hiring an Electrical Inspector Near Orleans, LA

The city of New Orleans dept. of Safety and Permits is looking for a Electrical Inspector to join our dedicated team! As a City Electrical Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting inspections of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial structures to verify compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough inspections of electrical wiring, fixtures, equipment, and systems to ensure compliance with national and local electrical codes.
  • Review building plans, specifications, and permit applications to assess compliance with electrical code requirements.
  • Conduct on-site inspections at various stages of construction or renovation projects to verify proper installation, grounding, and bonding of electrical components.
  • Identify and document code violations, deficiencies, or unsafe conditions, and provide guidance on corrective measures to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners to address inspection findings and facilitate code-compliant solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records, inspection reports, and documentation of inspection activities.

Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma or GED issued by a state Department of Education.
  • Possession of a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
  • Two (2) years (60 semester hours) of residential, commercial, or industrial wiring. Experience is subject to verification.
  • OR: Active certification by the internal Code Council as an Electrical Commercial/Residential Inspector.

Note: If appointed, employee must be certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as an Electrical Commercial/Residential Inspector during the probationary period. No probationary period may last longer than one (1) year. If employees are not certified by the ICC during their probationary period, they must wait one (1) year from the end of their probationary period or receive certification from the ICC to be considered for rehire.
