City of New Berlin is Hiring a Patrol Worker (FT) Near New Berlin, WI

General Overview of the Position:
Responsible for performing various semi-skilled work including operating and performing general maintenance of all trucks and equipment that may be owned or operated by the City.
Examples of Essential Duties:
  • Ability to operate CDL vehicles and pickups, and equipment in the performance of daily operations;
  • Performs snow & ice control measures including plowing, salting, and snow fence maintenance;
  • Repairs city roads and right of ways including pothole maintenance and shoulders;
  • Assists with cutting and pruning of trees and brush;
  • Replaces and installs street signs;
  • Assist with elections;
  • Repair, replace, and install concrete and asphalt;
  • Performs stormwater projects, including ditches, stormwater basins, and culvert installation and maintenance;
  • Complies with all safety procedures, including confined space entry and PPE use. Cooperates with other city employees and responds to emergencies or unusual circumstances as required or assigned;
  • Landscaping work including topsoil, seed, and sod installation;
  • Responds to call-in duty which will include after-hours, weekends, and holidays;
  • Any other assigned duties deemed necessary by the Streets Management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions and working out-of-doors and inside structures;
  • Ability to drive and operate heavy trucks and equipment safely;
  • Ability to use general and special equipment associated with streets operation, maintenance, and repair;
  • Ability to withstand extended periods of manual labor;
  • Ability to be available for emergencies that necessitate working at any time outside of normal work hours;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully with staff, city officials, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: Snow plowing experience; Mechanical aptitude, knowledge of safety regulations and guidelines
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License B, C, and D (Class A and N endorsement required within one year of hire).
