City of New Albany is Hiring an Utility worker Near Albany, IN

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the general supervision of the Field Supervisor, this position will include all aspects of wastewater collection system operation.

General duties include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on and in collection system components. Driving and operating the tools and equipment needed for system inspection, maintenance and minor repair of system components as well as maintaining same tools and equipment.

Additionally emergency collection system service "call-outs" during and after business hours and public / customer relations are required for this position.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on and in collection system components.
  • Drive and operate the tools and equipment needed for system inspection.
  • Provide maintenance and conduct minor repair of system components as well as maintain tools and equipment.
  • Maintain the emergency collection system service for emergency calls during and after business hours and provide excellent service to public and customers.
  • Performs tasks including Jet / Vac cleaning, relocating and set-up, equipment and tool maintenance, CCTV sewer lines, installing CIPP, reinstating taps, and manhole inspection.
  • Follow OSHA Regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain City information in a confidential manner.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Be a motivated self-starter.
  • Work independently and to be accurate, efficient and organized.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.
  • Frequent lifting of 50 pounds and occasional lifting in excess of 70 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, twisting, reaching and lifting approved weight above shoulder level.
  • May stand or walk continuously for 4-6 hours per day.
  • May sit or drive for 3-5 hours per day.
  • Use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling and repetitive fine manipulation.
  • Use of feet for repetitive operation of foot controls.
  • Hearing protection required occasionally.
  • Respirator use required occasionally.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20 / 20.

WORKING ENVIORNMENT AND CONDITIONS

  • This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.
  • Many functions of this position will be performed outside and in extreme weather and temperature conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, ice and dust.
  • This position requires entry into confined spaces such as tanks and manholes as well as routine exposure to raw sewage and wastewater.
  • This position requires regular exposure to high traffic and noise levels.
  • This position requires operation and working around fast moving and noisy machinery.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • High School Diploma or equivalent certificate (GED) or demonstrate the ability to work at this level based on past experience.
  • Familiar with basic OSHA standards and safety practices.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
