City of Naperville, Illinois is Hiring a Police Officer (Accelerated/Lateral Entry) Near Naperville, IL

The City of Naperville’s Police Department is seeking experienced Police Officers for accelerated/lateral entry. The Board of Fire and Police Commission will create a second eligibility list of candidates who have previously been full-time sworn officers of a regular police department in any municipality, county, university or state law enforcement agency provided they are certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and have been with their respective law enforcement agency within the State of Illinois for at least two (2) years.
Salary Information:
2-5 years as a Police Officer will be hired at the Step 2 wage rate of the FOP Contract ($87,661.39 for 2023)
5 or more years as a Police Officer will be hired at the Step 3 wage rate of the FOP Contract ($93,906.18 for 2023)
Duties
The Naperville Police Department employs a staff of more than 260 employees (this includes 177 budgeted sworn positions), whose mission is to provide extraordinary service to the community while protecting life and property. In addition to the traditional patrol and investigative functions of a suburban law enforcement agency, our department is also able to sustain a great number of positions in specialty assignments and collateral duties only typically seen in larger departments. Such assignments include an Underwater Recovery Team, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiators, 12 Field Training Officers, eight School Resource Officers, five Traffic Officers and four K-9 Officers, to name a few. Recognizing the diverse needs of the community, the Department provides and encourages a policy of professional and individual excellence, which is enhanced by continuing education and training.
Our officers are educated, well-trained professionals dedicated to working in partnership with our citizens to provide a safe place to live, work and conduct business. The Naperville Police Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency, which makes a statement to residents, law enforcement colleagues and other professionals that the Naperville Police Department meets the very highest standards.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must be certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and have a minimum of two years as a full-time police officer with a law enforcement agency within the State of Illinois. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university at the time of appointment is also preferred.

NOTE
: Each submitted application (including resume, cover letter, and/or other pertinent documents) will be evaluated and an interview pool will be formulated accordingly. The City does not guarantee an interview or further consideration once an application has been submitted.

Special consideration will be given to applicants that document the following
:
  • Law enforcement experience in either DuPage or Will County
  • Possess relevant specialized training
  • Current or previous collateral or specialty assignments
  • Positive referrals from Naperville Police personnel
  • Bi-lingual abilities
  • Supervisory experience
  • Other relevant attributes
Accelerated entry applicants who are selected for consideration shall complete the entry process before an offer of employment. The process may include the following components:
  • Application experience verification and background check
  • Oral examination
  • Polygraph examination
  • Psychological exam
  • Medical exam
After hire, selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a field training program and 18-month probation period.
