The City of Naperville is looking for a self-starting, motivated and goal-oriented individual to serve as a Project Engineer in the Transportation, Engineering, and Development (T.E.D.) Business Group.
The Project Engineer performs a variety of municipal engineering functions, including (but not limited to) overseeing maintenance and capital improvement programs for roadways, traffic signals, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities; reviewing development projects and permits; and addressing business and resident inquiries related to transportation and engineering matters. The Project Engineer leads and participates in multi-disciplinary project teams and coordinates with other City departments and outside agencies on local and regional projects. This position reports directly to the Deputy City Engineer.
Working in a team environment, the Project Engineer is responsible for achieving the shared goals of the Transportation, Engineering and Development Business Group. Primary responsibilities include:
Additional responsibilities include interacting with residents, property owners and businesses to address transportation and engineering-related concerns and providing support to various City boards and commissions.
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related transportation field
One or more years’ experience supporting civil engineering projects (related internship experience may also be considered)
A valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.
Additional years of experience with municipal engineering projects is a plus.
Illinois Engineer Intern license and/or an Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus.
Desired candidates will possess strong analytical and communication skills and knowledge of project management principles. Also important to this position are computer skills, report preparation experience, and experience interacting with the public and/or with project stakeholders.
