CITY OF NAPA is Hiring a Systems Administrator Near Napa, CA

Are you a telecommunications professional who has technical expertise in 911 dispatch telephone systems? Do you take pride in being collaborative and customer-focused? Are you someone who is passionate about championing technology for maximum efficiency and works well under pressure?

Our Information Technology Division has an immediate opening for one (1) Systems Administrator to join their hardworking team. As a Systems Administrator, you will work closely with the City of Napa's Police Department to provide efficient, vital IT services to the Communications Dispatch Center. Our Communications Dispatch Center is the primary public safety answer point for all 911 emergency calls to the Napa Police Department, Napa County Sheriff's Department, American Canyon Police Department, Napa Fire Department, American Canyon Fire Department and AMR Ambulance Services. We also transfer calls to CalFire, St. Helena Police Department and Calistoga Police Department. The ideal candidate for Systems Administrator will have knowledge of operations in public safety organizations and/or on-call services that operate 24/7 around the clock in order to provide safety services to the entire Napa community and beyond.This Systems Administrator position is primarily focused on 911 dispatch telephone systems and is responsible for managing technology systems that support the City's administrative and public safety responsibilities to deliver crucial services to our residents. We are searching for an individual who has a deep understanding of how the components within a computer systems' hardware, software and networks work together. You will also juggle multiple responsibilities, which include choosing and configuring hardware and software, matching technology to users' needs, and monitoring and testing the system in operation and solving problems after implementation.
 
The person selected for the role of Systems Administrator will assist in the long-range strategic planning of various IT systems and act as the technical project lead for the design and installation of the systems and infrastructure. This work involves leading work groups in system design and implementation projects, and coordinating project activities with other IT sections, City departments, outside agencies, consultants and contract service providers. In addition to having technical skills and knowledge, relationship building, collaboration, and customer service are a huge part of the job, and frequent consultation with management, users, software developers and network architects is required. 
We are looking for a team player with strong communication and collaboration skills who is highly motivated to lead process improvements within our agency. Applicants with prior experience providing technical IT support to a local law enforcement agency's 911 Dispatch Center telephone system, or similar setting, are encouraged to apply! Ideal candidates for Systems Administrator will have demonstrated success in the following competencies:

  • Customer Focus - Ensuring that the (internal or external) customer's perspective is a driving force behind strategic priorities, business decisions, organizational processes, and individual activities; crafting and implementing service practices that meet customers' and own organization's needs; promoting and operationalizing customer service as a value.
  • Managing Relationships - Meeting the personal needs of individuals to build trust, encourage two-way communication, and strengthen relationships.
  • Stress Tolerance - Maintaining stable performance under pressure or opposition (e.g., experiencing time pressure, conflict, or job ambiguity); handling stress in a manner that is acceptable to others and the organization.
  • Adaptability - Maintaining efficiency when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment (e.g., people, processes, structure, or culture); efficiently adjusting to change by exploring the benefits, trying innovative approaches, and collaborating to make the change successful.
This recruitment and examination is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and may be used to fill future similar vacancies as they occur during the active status of the employment list.   • Vacation Leave - New employees can accrue up to 120 vacation hours annually.
  • Paid Holidays - 15 paid holiday per year.
  • Management Leave - 104 hours (13 days) of Management Leave per year.
