CITY OF NAPA is Hiring a Recreation Associate - Sports (PART-TIME) Near Napa, CA

We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible, and motivated people to support the City of Napa Parks and Recreation Sports Team! The ideal candidate will be able to work part-time throughout the Spring and Summer season.Qualified applicants will have a proven track record of demonstrating the following competencies:

Building Trust: Gaining others' confidence by acting with integrity and following through on commitments; treating others and their ideas with respect and supporting them in the face of challenge. 

This is a temporary part-time position not to exceed 1,000 hours. Temporary and part-time employees are at-will and not covered by the Civil Service System. Some benefits for temporary employees include sick leave, temporary employee retirement plan, and 3.5% bilingual pay if applicable. 

The Recreation Associate - Sports acts as a leader and instructs others in recreational activities at Parks and Recreation centers and community sites. This position provides guidance to recreation aides, volunteers, and participants in conducting recreation activities; and assists professional staff in planning, organizing and conducting recreation activities and events.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Coach sport programs.
  • Lead games, free-play, and arts and crafts activities.
  • Open, monitor, and supervise recreation facilities.
  • Set up and take down sports and special events equipment.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Admit patrons to recreation facilities, programs, and events.
  • Schedule and coordinate leisure education programs and activities.
  • Coordinate special events, programs, and field trips.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
No experience is required. Some related work experience is desirable such as working in recreation, sports, or a classroom environment; working with the public of all ages; or performing customer service, and record keeping duties; previous participation in group sports, volunteer activities or a general interest working with youth is desirable. Applicants must be at least 16 years old at time of application and have the ability to obtain a work permit.

  • Fundamental rules, strategies, techniques, and skills of a variety of recreational activities such as athletics, physical fitness, games, arts, crafts, and music.

ABILITY TO: 
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, program participants and their parents.
  • Follow oral and written directions.
  • Learn the principles and practices of planning, organizing, and conducting recreation activities and events.
  • Provide a safe and positive atmosphere for program participants through awareness of safety requirements and potential hazards at recreation sites.
  • Use sound judgment.
  • Plan, lead and teach participants independently.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, responsibility, reliability, enthusiasm, and creativity.
  • Work in a busy environment.
  • Work with little direction or supervision once tasks are learned.
