GENERAL SUMMARY

Perform skilled to semi-skilled maintenance work operating a variety of tools and equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and upkeep of the City municipal infrastructure, facilities, and grounds.

SUPERVISION

General supervision is provided by the Stormwater Utility Manager and Stormwater Utility Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Adhere to OSHA, TOSHA, and the City of Mt. Juliet’s safety requirements.

• Adhere to the City of Mt. Juliet’s Policy and Procedures Manual.

• Operate a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery in repairing and installing concrete and other maintenance as needed.

• Perform routine post-utilization equipment inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair.

• Partner with other departmental staff in the completion of joint projects as required.

• Serve as a traffic control flagger to control vehicle traffic flow around construction/maintenance and protect crew members; place and retrieve traffic cones after work in the right-of-way.

• Work as part of a maintenance team to clean and remove debris from streets and rights-of-way; repair City facilities and grounds; assist in other construction/maintenance projects such as ditch digging, pavement cutting, patching, and crack filling.

• Maintain grass, trees, shrubs and other vegetation along street rights-of-way and City-owned properties.

• Inspect and/or repair drainage systems to ensure that all aspects of the system are functioning properly.

• Participate in a weekly rotation of street sweeping outside of normal business hours.

• Maintain work time and material records.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or equivalent

• General experience with tools, machinery, or maintenance equipment preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES REQUIRED

• Possession of valid Tennessee driver’s license in good standing

• CDL license within the first 2 years of employment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Care, maintenance, and safe operation of a variety of tools, equipment, facilities, and materials during and after all construction or repair activities; maintain records of equipment and maintenance performed.

• Operate a computer and related equipment/software.

• Identify potential safety hazards and correct or report accordingly.

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; follow oral and written instructions.

• Successfully pass a physical examination and drug screening.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

• Making observations

• Reading and writing

• Operating assigned equipment

• Communicating with others

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities that may include the following:

• Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time.

• Working in confined spaces.

• Bending, squatting, twisting, crawling, kneeling, and climbing frequently in the performance of job duties.

• Performing manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.

• Transporting hazardous materials.

• Pushing, pulling, or lifting equipment or supplies with objects occasionally weighing up to 100 lbs.

• Exposure to raw sewage, electrical hazards, temperature and weather extremes, high workplaces, varying noise levels, toxic materials, and air contaminants.
