Nature of Work

Thefundamental reason this position exists is to oversee construction,maintenance, and / or repair projects for City facilities that may include thesupervision of carpentry crews working on those projects.

Incumbents interpretall parts of design drawings and may estimate quantities or volume of componentsshown. The Building Construction Foreman oversees, coordinates, and / or performsactivities relative to all facets of the project, such as site engineering,grading, building layout, plumbing, electrical, etc.

The incumbent ensures thatprojects are completed according to plans, drawings, specifications and withinbudget. Work is performed under the general supervision of a BuildingConstruction Supervisor.

Incumbents generally carry out assignments withconsiderable independence and have some latitude in developing procedures andmethods.

The distinguishing characteristics of this classification as comparedto the Carpenter II classification, include responsibility for supervising andparticipating in journey-level carpentry work and the additional experiencerequired to oversee construction, maintenance, and / or repair projects.

Inaddition, foremen are accountable for the work performance of their assignedworkers.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.Four (4) years of experience as a journeyman carpenter in rough and / orfinished carpentry work with one (1) year of related supervisory experience.

NOTE : Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisiteknowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Kind of Examination
