City of Missouri City is Hiring a GIS Technician I Near MISSOURI CITY, TX

This is a full-time (Professionals) position in the City’s Innovation & Technology Department. An individual in this position will be responsible for maintaining and collecting GIS data, assisting Departments in the design and preparation of cartographic products & geographic analysis project needs assessments, and complying with quality control. Reporting relationship: GIS Administrator.

  • Maintain GIS utility and pavement data by acquiring necessary data, inputting information, checking data integrity, and logging the status of all data received; 
  • Verify incoming data submittals meet City of Missouri City requirements as specified in the city’s Infrastructure Ordinance Design Manual; 
  • Support the GIS Administrator and GIS staff in providing information products to various departments.
  • Produce maps, exhibits, and geographic data analysis;
  • Perform data collection, field assignments, and analysis for engineering studies and GIS projects;
  • Collect, process, and, maintain GPS data for City assets and other spatial datasets;
  • Maintain and update geospatial database of GPS benchmarks;
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date metadata for feature classes;
  • Provide support for system/application development and implementation;
  • Develop geographic data, prepare reports, respond to inquiries from the public, and distribute data to internal and external customers as needed;
  • Schedule and perform upgrades of desktop software for GIS users and install software service packs and patches as warranted; Provide GIS support to both internal and external users for GIS applications, hardware, software and databases;
  • Utilize electronic graphics designs system components such as laser printers, scanners, cameras, GPS, disk drives, etc. Assists with address geocoding and analysis for demographic, population, and crime data. 
  • Prepare maps and other representations of spatial data, with adherence to established cartographic standards. Must have knowledge of principles and practices of mapping, coordinate systems, projection and scale. 
  • Assist with maintenance, customization, and technical support for asset management software;
  • Provide explanation of technical matters to individuals with little or no background in the area under discussion
  • Maintain fluency in GIS software, professional practices and techniques;
  • Perform in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision;
  • Represent the City, GIS and/or IT on regional/local committees or at user group meetings;
  • Subject to 24-hour recall.

Associate’s Degree in geographic information systems or closely related field, from an accredited college or university or equivalent professional work experience required.
 
Proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro and experience with AutoCAD preferred.
 
Selected applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency in entering, verifying, validating, and reporting AutoCAD data according to the City’s standards and specification. This includes the creation of GIS feature from an AutoCAD drawing, create a map using a template, provide and complete the analysis of geographic data as requested.

The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
