The Shady Oak Beach Gates Lead manages the daily and front-line operations of the Shady Oak Beach front gate and beach area while also overseeing gate attendant staff and providing administrative support. This position is required to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The Gate Attendant Lead will need to manage multiple activities simultaneously and interpret operating policies and administration duties in a capacity that requires independent judgment. Leads must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary. Ideal Gate Attendant Leads should possess strong leadership qualities with supervision and mentoring staff. Gate Attendant Leads should maintain a positive collaborative work environment between staff and management.

Position Essentials:
  • Maintains constant surveillance of the front entrance of the beach area. Knows, understands, and consistently applies and enforces safety and facility rules, policies and guidelines.
  • Assists with opening and closing the facility, completing and maintaining records, reports, and cash drawers.
  • Communicates professionally, effectively, and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintains cleanliness and a hazard-free environment; performs various custodial duties such as sweeping, picking up trash, and sanitizing all facilities within the beach area.
  • Communicates with and maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
  • Requires attentiveness, outstanding customer service skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to be proactive and exceed patron expectations. 
  • Understands, follows, and enforces all facility rules. Provides excellent customer service and maintains a positive public image by immediately addressing questions and concerns from staff and patrons. Contact and ask for assistance from the coordinator or manager when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Attend required staff meetings and training (every other Thursday at 8:00 am starting June 8th).
  • Must be available to attend job-specific training in early June prior to the summer season.
  • A minimum of 15 hours of weekly availability (equivalent to 2-3 shifts/week). Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Team members are preferred to be available and commit to employment for the entire summer season (mid-June through late August).
  • Must be 16 years of age prior to the start of the season.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:Moderately physically demanding work, typically involving a combination of occasional climbing, kneeling, and crouching. Occasionally lifts and/or move items weighing up to 30 lbs or heavier items (300 lbs) with assistance. When working outdoors, staff are exposed to all types of weather conditions.
