Data Collection and Analysis: Assist in the collection of data from various sources including police reports, fire department records, public health databases, and other relevant sources. Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and areas of concern in public safety.
Report Generation: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations that summarize findings and analysis. Use graphical and statistical tools to make data accessible and understandable to nontechnical stakeholders.
Project Support: Participate in the development and implementation of public safety projects. This may involve researching best practices, gathering stakeholder input, and evaluating project outcomes.
Collaboration: Work closely with public safety officials, data analysts, and other city departments to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to public safety metrics and strategies.
Technology Utilization: Utilize various software tools and technology platforms for data analysis, visualization, and mapping to enhance the understanding and presentation of public safety metrics.
This is a part-time, temporary internship position. The duration and hours of the internship are flexible to accommodate academic commitments.
The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Department's Managing Director or another designated supervisor.
This position may require occasional local travel for data collection or meetings.
Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from, a degree program in public administration, criminal justice, data science, statistics, or a related field.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and experience with data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS) or programming languages (e.g., Python, R) is highly desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
A demonstrated interest in public safety, community service, or local government operations.
