CITY OF MIDLAND is Hiring a Grant Accountant Near Midland, TX

The Grant Accountant will be responsible for researching, grant writing, applying, and managing all Federal and State grants. In addition, the Grant Accountant will provide consulting services to departments for the management of grants managing deadlines, drafting grant requests, and submitting reports for approval.
  • Ability to research federal and state grant funding opportunities for all City of Midland Departments. 
  • Prepares grant proposals, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals. 
  • Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying grant funding opportunities and needs, studying request for proposal, and setting up strategy meeting with departments. 
  • Meets proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information grant writing, review, approval, and transmittal. 
  • Enters and monitors tracking data. 
  • Gathers proposal information by identifying source of information, coordinating submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risk associated with proposals.
  • Develop grant writing checklist, policy, and procedures.
  • Develop templates and other resources to support the proposal development and grant submission process. 
  • Improves proposal-writing results by attending educational opportunities and maintaining personal networks. 
  • Assist with other job duties as needed as determined by Comptroller
  • Work closely with Senior Accountant regarding deadlines and grant reporting financial submission requirements. 
Ability to move about an office or building.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Familiarity with federal and state grant funding. 
  • Experience submitting grant proposals.
  • Must be able to thrive in deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills required. 
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word. 

Minimum Education, Experience, and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in grant writing, prospect research or minimum of 2 years comparable skills acquired in professional setting.
