TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to operate assigned equipment which will involve repetitive motion, reaching, pulling, pushing, feeling and climbing. Requires ability to traverse grounds when moving equipment to surrounding job sites including wooded areas, bottom lands, and ditch banks. May require crawling under equipment to remove trapped debris. Must be able to communicate and interpret instructions and warnings. May require the ability to read maps and reference points to locate markings. Must be able to detect equipment malfunction or obstructions. Requires lifting (approx. 50 lbs.) to assist in maintenance of equipment or to change attachments.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to dust, fumes and changing weather conditions. Exposed to noise and traffic. May be exposed to gas and/or electrical lines that have been cut. May work in sludge surface disposal site.
High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in operating all types of heavy equipment required; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License if assigned to Public Works and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "A" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License if assigned to General Services and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment. May be required to complete a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate competencies in operating heavy equipment such as front-end loader, back-hoe loader, track-hoe excavator, and bulldozer (crawler tractor)
