Job Description

Under general supervision, employee performs daily physical plant operations and maintenance at municipal swimming pools. Employee handles pools filtration and pump equipment, hazardous chemicals, keeps daily reports and records according to health and safety standards and decisions are made daily on a variety of items (from simple to difficult). Employee has occasional contact with the public. This job involves working around people, especially children of school age. Employee must have a high degree of moral integrity, and must be courteous and responsible.

Job Responsibilities

1. Employee performs daily physical operations and maintenance at Municipal swimming pools facilities and sites.
2. Employee handles pools filtration and pump equipment, hazardous chemicals, keeps daily reports and records according to health and safety standards and decisions are made daily on a variety of items (from simple to difficult).
3. Test water for clarity, chlorine levels and pH levels.
4. Administer and balance chemicals, and operate water filtration system to follow Safety, Health and Sanitary standards.
5. Adjust and maintain mechanical pumps.
6. Wash deck, basket rooms, restrooms, and keep premises in a sanitary condition.
7. Perform maintenance duties, such as painting, plumbing, and repairing other mechanical apparatus as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Requirements

1. Must have a High School diploma or GED.

2. Must be able to swim 25 yards non-stop unassisted.
3. One year of pool operation experience is preferred.
4. Must have a valid Certified Pool Operator certificate (CPO) or must be able to obtain certification within 6 months from of hire.
5. A certificate of handling and distributing hazardous materials and/or certificate of apprentice electrician and plumbing is preferred.
6. Must have a valid Texas Class C Driver's License.

Physical Requirements

1. Job involves standing, walking, and constant physical movements which demands physical strength and agility.
2. Involves frequent lifting of heavy material. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
3. Work is performed under potentially hazardous conditions.

Additional Information

1. Position does not have supervisory responsibilities
2. Works outdoor on varied work schedule, weekend / holiday when necessary and overtime as needed.
3. Job requires basic knowledge of maintenance in plumbing and electrical operations.
4. Employee is required to learn and know all work required Safety, Health and Sanitary procedures and maintain operational standards.
