Job Description

Under immediate supervision and procedural control, the Maintenance Worker performs manual labor involved with street repairs, sidewalk repairs, construction repairs and drainage maintenance.

The employee may be assigned a number of tasks, including reporting requirements associated with such tasks. Decisions are made on a routine level under immediate supervision with no responsibilities for reports or records.

Job Responsibilities

1. Loads and / or unloads materials, such as cement bags, power tools, construction debris, and other materials onto a truck.

2. Assists in cleaning equipment, hand tools and trucks.

3. May perform minor maintenance and repairs to tools, equipment or trucks.

4. May operate equipment attached to a truck when working on a project to repair streets, alleys, sidewalks, and drainage infrastructure.

5. Performs manual work, i.e. installing posts, pipes, street and alley repairs, cleaning streets and other work.

6. Performs other related duties as required or necessary.

7. Operates department equipment.

8. Assists on other job related work when assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Requirements - 1. Job requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

2. A valid TX Class C Drivers License is required.

4. Must have basic knowledge of hand tools to perform normal work as assigned.

5. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor under conditions involving extremes of heat and cold.

6. Must be able to follow orders and work efficiently and productively.

7. Must be able to operate department equipment safely and effectively.

8. Must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Physical Requirements

1. Job requires continuous lifting of heavy materials, constant physical movement, and demands physical strength associated with hard labor or forceful physical efforts.

Additional Information

1. This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing.

2. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

3. Job requires working special events, evenings, weekends, holidays and during hurricane or other emergencies.

4. Required to work during emergencies (i.e. storms, hurricanes, etc).

5. Required to be on stand-by or on call (waiting to be engaged to work) when necessary.

6. Must follow all safety rules and regulations.
