Job Description
Under immediate supervision, the Maintenance Worker-T&D performs manual labor involved with installation, repair and maintenance of City water lines.
Employee has no supervisory responsibilities for reports or records and decisions are made on a routine level. Employee has little or no contact with the public.
Employee must abide by all safety rule and regulations.
Job Responsibilities
1. Loads and unloads materials, such as equipment, supplies, trash, etc, onto a truck.
3. Performs minor repairs to tools, equipment or truck.
4. Operates department equipment.
5. Performs manual work, such as, installing posts, pipes, water lines, cleaning streets, etc.
6. Performs specialized department duties.
7. Assists on other job related work when assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Requirements - 1. Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. No previous work experience is required.
3. A valid Class C Texas Drivers License is required.
4. Must be able to obtain a Class "D" Water Distribution Certification within one (1) year of water course.
5. Must have basic knowledge of hand tools to perform normal work as assigned.
6. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor under conditions involving extremes of heat and cold.
7. Must be able to follow orders and work efficiently and productively.
8. Job requires employee to be on stand-by (on call waiting to be engaged to work) when necessary.
9. Must be able to communicate effectively in the English language.
Physical Requirements
1. Job is generally outdoors performing heavy manual labor under conditions involving extreme heat or cold.
2. Continuous lifting of heavy materials and constant physical movements are standard which require physical strength associated with hard labor.
3. Job involves physical activity to include lifting, pushing, bending, reaching, grabbing and carrying is required on a regular basis.
4. Employee is exposed to chemical products and requires knowledge and use of safety precautions.
Additional Information
1. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
2. This position has no supervisory responsibilities over others.
3. Position requires for employee to be on standby rotating schedule of seven days in a row when necessary.
4. Position includes working evening and / or weekend hours.
