City of McAllen is Hiring a Billing clerk Near Allen, TX

Job Description

Under general supervision, the Utility Billing Clerk analyzes consumer water usage to identify and correct inconsistencies and bills for water, wastewater, sanitation, recycling services, sanitation state tax and other miscellaneous charges.

Job Responsibilities

1. Performs general and specialized office clerical work such as computer word processing, data entry, and filing, copying and operating office equipment.

2. Performs delegated receptionist duties to include answering phones, routing calls, taking messages and providing general public information in a friendly professional manner in the absence of the Administrative Clerk.

3. Performs internal service professionally using courtesy, tact and diplomacy.

4. Responds to inquiries in a professional manner providing accurate public information about services without disclosing confidential or unauthorized information.

5. Answers customers' questions, provides information on procedures and resolves common customer concerns in a diplomatic manner when needed.

6. Collects statistical or other information and reviews, verifies, proofreads and corrects data, records and forms.

7. Processes, distributes, and files records, forms, documents and other information.

8. Maintains a clean and orderly customer checkout area and office work area.

9. Maintains and files electronic and manual records in an orderly manner.

10. Reviews and analyses water consumption for accuracy on a daily basis.

11. Generates additional requests to other departments if needed.

12. Assists other personnel when necessary.

13. May assist on administrative duties, assignments, and projects when assigned.

14. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Requirements - 1. Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of post high school education from an accredited college or university.

The City will consider three (3) years of City related work experience to substitute for lack of post high school requirement.

2. Job requires three (3) years of office, clerical, and customer service work experience, preferably in a professional office setting.

3. Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver's license.

4. Must be able to type accurately.

5. Must be able to be exact and highly accurate in performing duties.

6. Must be able to use a computer and general office equipment such as copy machines, and calculators. Employee will be trained on departmental equipment as needed.

7. Must be able to work with various software packages including, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other Microsoft Office Tools.

9. Must be able to meet deadlines to ensure billing schedule is met.

10. Must be bilingual and able to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.

11. Must be able to greet the public in a courteous manner using tact and diplomacy.

Physical Requirements

1. Employee works in an office environment free of serious health hazards.

2. Job requires carrying, lifting, and pushing 5-15 pounds working with files, records, and office equipment.

Additional Information

1. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

2. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

3. Work may include working evening and / or weekendhours.
