City of Maumelle is Hiring a 911-Public Safety Dispatcher Near Maumelle, AR

Receives emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatches services in response to the calls. (PSD personnel are probationary and are closely supervised during their first year of employment.)

The 9-1-1 dispatch center is a 24-hour operation. Employees in this job are classified as safety-sensitive and essential personnel. They must work a variable 4 to 5-day work week, in shifts of 8 to 12 hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. PSD personnel must report to work as scheduled during inclement weather.

  • PSD personnel will receive requests for emergency or non-emergency services by 9-1-1, telephone, radio, and in person; obtain the necessary information to determine the nature and seriousness of a call; dispatch the appropriate service to the scene (fire units, police units, wrecker, ambulance, utility company personnel, Red Cross personnel, etc.). 
  • Prioritize and transmit calls to Police and/or Fire units giving the location and nature of the call to the appropriate unit. Provide additional information to field units dispatched to answer calls. 
  • Monitor field unit radio reports and requests for information or assistance. 
  • Maintain a CAD (computer-aided dispatch) log of field unit locations, updating continuously. 
  • Maintain records of any services or streets that are out of service, reporting to the correct department. 
  • Assist in maintaining a current list of hospitals, medical services, apartment dwellings, shopping centers, and streets in the City. 
  • Receive and enter the clock in/out time for field units into the computer. 
  • Take requests, retrieve, and transmit information from the ACIC/NCIC system. 
  • Receive and transmit messages to other state public safety agencies via radio or telephone. 
  • Test, monitor, and operate communication systems such as computers, telephones, radios, paging and recording systems, and generators, and maintain related records to ensure proper working order. 
  • Receive and provide information regarding City services, during and after regular business hours, to the general public.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check with NO felony convictions.
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Some computer experience and experience in a fast-paced multi-tasking work environment. 
  • Call center experience is preferred but not required. 
  • Customer service experience is preferred but not required.

If hired, you must successfully complete the following mandatory training:

  • ACIC/NCIC Level I
  • ACIC/NCIC Level II
  • Basic Telecommunicator’s Course – 5 days - 40 hrs credit at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy (ALETA) in Camden, AR or another location as determined by ALETA.
