City of Mason City is Hiring a Storekeeper Near Mason, IA

Summary

Performs professional services for purchasing and dispensing materials and supplies for city departments through a variety of online and other sources, while maintaining accurate and updated electronic and manual inventory records.

Essential Duties
  • Purchase and dispense a wide variety of stock material and supplies for various departments throughout the City. Conducts price comparisons for items purchased to identify appropriate cost controls and reductions.
  • Maintain accurate records on all stock material and supplies purchased and stored in Central Stores. Maintains an active file of all purchase orders and invoices for a two-year period.
  • Prepares purchase orders for payment of invoices.
  • Staff and maintain the Central Stores office and controls access to the storeroom for authorized personnel.
  • Maintains library of written or online purchasing sources.
  • Prepares a yearly-itemized inventory of material and cost of materials in stock.
  • Responsible for maintaining the inventory of all repair materials for emergency repairs (mainline joins, valves, fire hydrants and fittings) to ensure the required parts are available when required.
  • Prepares invoices for internal sales to outside contractors.
  • Electronic data entry of various departmental maintenance records and other documents as assigned.
  • Processes chargebacks to various departments for work performed by the Operations and Maintenance department.
  • Prepares work orders as instructed.
  • Operates snow removal equipment for backup as assigned.
  • May serve as backup for other manual labor tasks in emergency situations or as temporarily assigned.
  • Backup the Administrative Assistant as needed on outside phone calls and visitors.
  • Must be able to follow and understand safety rules and regulations.
  • Attends work regularly at the designated time and place. Subject to evening or weekend call-in or overtime for snow removal, as required by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word and online ordering systems.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid CDL Class B driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of assignment. Must maintain compliance with City’s Administrative Policy on Operation of City Vehicles (AP 5.03).
  • The position is deemed critical and the employee must maintain residence within 10 miles of the corporate limits of Mason City, Iowa, within six (6) months of date of appointment to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of electronic inventory systems and how to effectively organize parts facilities, and knowledge of safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of equipment operation.
  • Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Ability to conduct price comparisons and analysis. Ability to organize complex inventory systems. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, read and write instructions, work independently, prioritize, plan, problem-solve, carry out projects to their completion, skill in responding to and resolving staff complaints and requests, and to complete daily activities according to a work schedule.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, outside contractors and suppliers, and the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive and restricted information

Phone/radio; standard office equipment and relevant software; mobile equipment including forklift, pickup truck and various snow plows; and common hand and power tools.
