Martinsville - (14- hours)Part Time Circulation Assistant POSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Branch Librarian or Circulation Supervisor, the CirculationAssistant performs varied clerical and technical tasks in providing service to patrons at the circulationdesk.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESChecks library materials in and out according to established rules and proceduresAnswers patrons' directional and procedural inquiriesPrepares and issues new or replacement library cardsAnswers telephone and refers calls to appropriate person or departmentCollects fines and other library feesAssists patrons in selection and location of books, videos, periodicals, and other library materialsProcesses requests for reserved materialsMaintains periodical collection (except at headquarters library)Organizes returned library items on book trucks for shelvingResponsible for opening and closing procedures of the library as neededSupervises page in the absence of the supervisorShelves library materials in the absence of a pagePrepares notices for mailingAssists with window displays, arts, and crafts as neededWorks in other branches as neededAttends conferences and workshops as appropriatePerforms other duties as assigned by supervisorKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESAbility to learn standard library tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routinesAbility to work well under pressureGeneral knowledge of reader interests, books, and authorsSelf-starter who can work without supervisionGood judgmentKnowledge of Blue Ridge Regional Library policies and proceduresAbility to maintain good working relationships with public/staffPatience, tact, and a good sense of humorComputer literacy or willingness and ability to complete computer training satisfactorilyOral communication skillsKnowledge of communityAssists with library programs as neededEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or equivalentExperience in working with the public or some college experience
