City of Marietta, GA is Hiring an Environmental Compliance Coordinator Near Marietta, GA

Rate of Pay: $55,515.20 - $63,086.40
Status: Open Until May 16, 2024
This position is responsible for the development, implementation and enforcement of all environmental compliance programs established by the Water and Wastewater department. Supervises and directs the Environmental Compliance Inspector to meet program goals.  
  • Establishes and maintains an ongoing monitoring and testing program including field inspections and accurate record keeping of all environmental control programs including drought management, lead and copper rule, disinfectant byproduct sampling, bacteriological sampling, stream monitoring, backflow prevention, cross connection control, grease removal, and others that may be established.
 
  • Enforces regulatory provisions for environmental compliance programs for water and wastewater utility.
  • Prepares and distributes annual Water Quality Report to EPD and customers.
  • Supervises and directs the Environmental Compliance Inspector to effectively comply with State and Federal regulations and to efficiently accomplish environmental program goals and standards.
  • Meets with department officials and other persons as necessary to discuss code enforcement.
  • Oversees field tests of all city-owned backflow preventers at least annually or as otherwise needed.
  • Manages compliance functions with commercial, institutional, and industrial entities regarding environmental program requirement and codes.
  • Develops community-wide educational programs on water and wastewater environmental programs, conservation and other related issues.
  • Monitors regulations and implements new policies or procedures to comply with State and Federal regulations.
  • Advises architects, engineers, contractors and individuals on code requirements and other related regulations.
  • Performs construction site inspections as needed. Prepares and maintains daily, weekly and monthly reports on results of inspections, enforcement actions or other regulatory requirements. Prepares and distributes the annual consumer confidence report.
  • Represents the city/BLW in legal action resulting from enforcement action.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science or related field, certification as a backflow prevention tester and 3 years of experience in a water and wastewater system operation including at least 2 years working with water and wastewater system environmental compliance programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have Georgia State Board Distribution or Collection certification or obtain within working test period.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting water and wastewater blueprints and drawings.
  • Skill in verbal and written communications.
  • Skill in using a personal computer and MS Office Suite software applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, engineers, contractors, city/BLW employees and the public.
  • Ability to enforce codes and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and management methods including scheduling, budgeting and cost accounting.
  • Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license and a satisfactory 7-year driving history to include no DUI’s in the last five years.
