City of Maitland is Hiring an UTILITIES TECHNICIAN I (WATER) Near Maitland, FL

The job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.
Performs a variety of routine clerical, semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance of water distribution system. Also assists with water plant operations. Works under the general direction of the Public Works Director, or assigned designee.
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position. During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able perform emergency services duties, as assigned.Assists the Water Distribution Technician II in conducting distribution maintenance.
Remove, repair, inspect, and install water meters. Replace water meters and registers, meter boxes and lids. Test and repair/replace distribution components, including fire hydrants, valves, blow-off and sample points, and backflow devices. Conducts water pressure and water meter tests.
Conducts valve exercising and main isolation projects.
Makes live taps on water mains and install water service connections to the meter.
Reads and interprets water meters utilizing assigned routes and hand held micro computing devices to electronically record meter readings.
Downloads meter-reading routes from the computer to the hand-held devices and prints meter reading reports for the billing department.
Responds to work orders for utility disconnections, reconnections, new installation orders, and other public works service requests as assigned.
Responds to customer complaints. Checks water in homes and businesses for taste, odor, color, and pressure to ensure compliance with FDEP Standards.
Performs “locates” of utilities prior to excavation.
Maintains availability for “standby” assignment for a week at a time or other pre-determined schedule, and availability for return to work under City’s “call back” procedures. 
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
May help the Water Treatment Plant Operator with water plant duties.
Collects water samples for the testing of bacteria levels, chlorine and fluoride residuals.
Sweeps and cleans work areas and landscape work.
Completes forms, writes reports, draw simple maps of construction and system repairs. Performs irrigation inspections as required.
Maintains stockroom inventory of repair parts and supplies. Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned. Working knowledge of data entry into hand held meter-reading devices; basic computer programs competency. Some working knowledge of water production and water distribution systems.
Ability to effectively interact with residents/customers. High school diploma or equivalent, with one or more years of experience in water production or distribution or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification, Class B, or obtain the CDL certification within six (6) months of employment.
Must also possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 within 30 days of employment and the ICS-100 within 90 days of employment.
 There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your Supervisor.
Preference to a person with experience as an equipment operator; backhoe, excavator, skid steer, etc.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a valid Florida Level 3 Distribution System Operator License or obtain the License within two (2) years of employment.
