Wastewater Plant Operator I, II, and III
Duties:
Class I-The purpose of this classification is to assist in the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s water or wastewater treatment plants.
Class II and III- The purpose of this classification is to serve as lead worker and assist in the daily operations and maintenance of the City’s water or wastewater treatment plants, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Educational Requirements:
Class I- High school diploma or GED; one-year experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must posses and maintain a valid KY driver’s license. Must posses and maintain a valid KY Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet Class I Wastewater Plant Operators License.
Class II- High school diploma or GED; three years experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must posses and maintain a valid KY driver’s license. Must posses and maintain a valid KY Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet Class II Wastewater Plant Operators License.
Class III- Same as Class II; also, must possess and maintain a valid KY Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet Class III Wastewater Plant Operators License.
Skills Necessary:
Data Utilization – Ability to calculate and/or tabulate data. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.
Human Interaction- Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization- Ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments. Class II and III requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment and machinery, requiring the monitoring, adjustment, regulation, and/or setting of multiple conditions.
Verbal Aptitude—Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude—Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions and interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning—Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action. Class III requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
Situational Reasoning—Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
