Job Description

The Utilities Superintendent for the City of Lynn Haven assists the Assistant Director and Director by planning, coordinating, and directing the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal water distribution and wastewater transmission systems. This supervisory position oversees staff assigned to the maintenance and repair of the underground water and wastewater distribution systems (i.e., pipelines), the maintenance and repair of the City's lift stations, and the monitoring, maintenance, and repair of the meter systems. The Utility Superintendent also works closely with the other City Superintendents and staff and outside contractors/vendors. Also, the Utility Superintendent is expected to respond to citizen requests and issues related to their public utilities concerns in a thoughtful manner, bringing possible solutions forward for final discussion and resolution. EXPERIENCES, ABILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS

• Read and interpret work orders, plans, maps, and specifications for water distribution and wastewater transmission systems.
• Create and prioritize work orders and projects, ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing are trained and available to complete the order/project.
• Monitor workers to the successful and appropriate completion of work.
• Inspect all work to ensure compliance with plans and its prescribed standards.
• Train workers, ensuring consistent performance and inspiring growth and development.
• Possess functional knowledge of and the ability to use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
• Possess experience with standard practices, methods, materials, and tools used in masonry, concrete, and pavement trades.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and knowledge of water distribution and wastewater transmission systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and problem-solve.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduation from an accredited high school is required, additional post-secondary education desired.
• At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in water distribution and wastewater transmission systems, or a like trade area (e.g., concrete, masonry, asphalt, commercial construction).
• At least three (3) years of supervisory experience, to include leading either formally or informally crews or work teams.
• Knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Office, GIS, GPS, and other similar products.
