City of Lynn Haven is Hiring a Signs & Marking Technician Near Haven, FL

Job Description

Under the leadership of the Director of Public Works, the Signs and Markings Technician performs skilled workrelated to the application, construction, fabrication, installation, maintenance, renovation and repair of signs used forthe purpose of traffic control. The applicant should have completed a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) work zone certification safety course or complete such course within one year of accepting the position.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Assists with installing regulatory, warning, guide, construction, detour, and special signs as needed.
  • Assists in placing computerized traffic counters throughout the county.
  • Assists with driving posts; uses hydraulic post puller to pull signposts. Assists with fabricating signs of all kinds.
  • Loads materials on truck, such as sign posts, signs, street name plates, bolts, nuts and proper fluid for truck and compressor.
  • Assists in operating jet blaster and grinder to remove old pavementmarkings. Assists with laying out and installing thermoplastic.
  • Assists in painting intersections, railroad crossings, and curbs; assists in operating small striping machine for various jobs.
  • Removes sight restrictions, such as tree limbs, from intersections.Installs ceramic buttons and raised markers.
  • Assists with flagging traffic.
  • Assists with unloading posts and signs.
  • Maintains clean shop areas; unloads commercial trucks. Performs other related duties as required.


ABILITIES AND SKILL

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, positive, and effective working relationships with other departments, team members, professional groups, and the general public.
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards in the work involved and take precautionary methods to protect self and others. Ability to work under adverse conditions, (heat, cold, inclement weather).
  • Desire to comply with all City safety policies and programs in the performance of their work to include, but not limited to, vehicles, equipment, tools and facilities.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor (digging, lifting etc..) for extended periods. Ability to understand, follow and communicate in writing.
  • Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools of one or more of the masonry, concrete and pavement trades.
  • Skill in operating equipment and tools such as a jet blaster, paint roller, post driver, air compressor, small striping machine, one ton sign and paint trucks, torches, forklifts, paint mixer, band saw, mechanics and carpenter tools, lawnequipment, sign plotter, and sign printer.
  • Ability to use independent judgement in routine and non-routine situations.
  • Ability to handle required mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Desire to learn on the job skills


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred.
  • Experience in manual labor maintenance and construction work in related fields of concrete, masonry, and asphalt, work desired.
  • Computer experience with Sign making software, Microsoft Office and Excel.Graphic design experience desired.
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used in the work assigned
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered in lieu of minimum qualifications.
