The Lynchburg Fire Department is seeking experienced professional Firefighters - Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS).Performs responsible protective service work during fire suppression and other emergency situations, and paraprofessional work in providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation to the sick and injured by performing the following duties. Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. An experienced provider shall have one year or greater experience with a career municipal fire/EMS department, private fire/EMS contractor, or other career public safety/EMS entity, must not be on probation in any form, must be in good standing (eligible for re-hire) with their prior organization and have served in a full-time career capacity, as indicated above, within 3 years of application date.Firefighter (ALS) - $54,517 (requires Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate or Paramedic - Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services or National Registry)IMPORTANT: You are advised to continue to monitor your email following the submission of your application. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.Responds to alarms, drives and operates apparatus and related equipment, assists in the suppression of fires, including entry, advancing lines, rescue, ventilation, salvage work and extrication;Responds to emergency medical calls, drives equipment and administers pre-hospital basic and/or advanced life support care (if certified); stabilizes and transports patients to emergency care facilities;Extricates victims from automobile wrecks, collapsed structures, etc.;Performs salvage and overhaul services, establishes temporary utility services;Responds to non-emergency calls and conducts other non-emergency service calls as necessary;Prepares reports and maintains records of fire apparatus and medic unit responses, prepares routine incident, run-log and maintenance records;Participates in continuing training and instructional programs through individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes in emergency medical treatment and fire suppression practices;Transports patients on a non-emergency basis between home and/or treatment facilities;Assists in maintaining and repairing fire and emergency medical equipment and cleaning fire station and grounds.ADDITIONAL DUTIESOther duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Possession of valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria;Valid Commonwealth of Virginia certification as: Emergency Medical Technician/BasicFirefighter I and II.Mayday" Firefighter DownSatisfactory completion of Haz-Mat Awareness courses.The department may require the employee to obtain and maintain Advance Life Support certification up to and including Paramedic certification.Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training wihtin 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
