Utility Person / Bus Driver

Job Title: Utility Person / Bus Driver (2000-75, J#6554, 3770)

Department: Council on Aging

Reports To: Director

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Union: AFSCME - Local 1705

Salary: $22.9752 (min) to $26.5839 (max) per hour; 40 hours per week

SUMMARY

Utility Person/Bus Driver is responsible for the daily transportation of seniors to and from planned civic event activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the transportation of seniors to and from various civic events.

Assists the seniors in boarding and departing the bus.

Assist custodial personnel with various maintenance.

In case of accident, driver must file proper forms.

Serve as back-up driver for delivering "Meals on Wheels" to home bound recipients.

Performs various custodial and other services at the Center, designated by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicant must have good driving history, ability to follow instruction, ability to work with little or no supervision, experience in working with elderly population, ability to work tactfully with the public. Must possess class 3 drivers license.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must hold class 2 drivers license with passenger transport and maintain a good driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with an occasional exposure to loud music and/or voices, due to various hall rentals such as concerts, dances and meetings.
