City of Loveland is Hiring a Maintenance Worker II-Open Lands and Trails-Part Year Near Loveland, CO

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Open Lands and Trails Division. Major emphasis will be in the areas of native landscape management, wildlife enhancement projects, and general maintenance of properties, facilities, and trails. Work schedule includes weekdays, weekends, holidays and split shifts. The salary range for this position is $15.16- $19.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Position will close to applicants on: Friday, 4.12.24 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

This position is a ten (10) month max, part year, 40 hour per week position with Medical coverage benefit option only.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs maintenance and stewardship of City's natural areas and trails including: care of native plants; removing trash and debris from open land sites; cleaning and maintaining natural area sites and facilities; construction and maintenance of soft and hard surface trails; control of noxious weeds through mowing, herbicide spraying, and other techniques; assists with wildlife habitat improvement and restoration projects; provides stewardships and education to the public through field contacts.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists with department projects as needed including special events. Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Ability to use basic hand and power tools, and operate a variety of power equipment used for trail and natural area restoration and maintenance. Basic knowledge of indigenous vegetation, wildlife, and range management concepts in Colorado's semi-arid climate. Ability to communicate and take direction both verbally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with a team or individually. Ability to develop and maintain dialogue and positive working relationships with the public, special interest groups and City staff on a constructive level by employing effective interpersonal skills. Works as an effective part of the division and City team by responding to change and special needs with flexibility in a positive manner and by taking initiative to resolve conflicts with others independently.

Education and/or experience:

College level course work in natural resource related field or employment experience in natural areas or trails maintenance is preferred.

Licensure and/or certifications:

Must be 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license at time of application.

Current State of Colorado Department of Agriculture Certified Operator's License in the category of Rangeland preferred.

Material and equipment directly used:

City vehicle, utility vehicle, hand and power tools, tractors, spray equipment, watering equipment, mowers, trimmers, seeders, pressure washers, snow removal equipment, loader, chainsaw, pruning shears, additional materials and equipment as assigned

Working conditions and physical requirements:

Regularly required to work outdoors traversing uneven surfaces and terrain. Exposure to natural elements, adverse weather conditions, and encounters with wildlife may occur. Frequently moves and/or positions objects up to 80 lbs. Frequently stoops, kneels, reaches, and performs manual labor while carrying out essential job functions. Work schedule will include weekdays, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
