City of Louisville is Hiring an Open Space Technician I Near CO 80027, CO

Under the direction of the Open Space Trails and Maintenance Supervisor, this position will assist the Open Space Department in carrying out the objectives of the Open Space Division as outlined in the Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Comprehensive Long-Term Plan. This individual will perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction, installation, and planning of Open Space amenities and trails. Primary duties will include Open Space trail corridor maintenance such as trail edge mowing, trail repair and resurfacing, tree trimming/removal; trash removal and dog-waste bag dispenser re-stock; vault toilet cleaning; and trailhead inspection and upkeep. Secondary duties will include assisting in supervising work for seasonal staff, youth corps, and volunteers; trail construction; and other duties as assigned.All initial communication regarding your application will come via email usually from info@governmentjobs.com or the recruiter.   • Responsible for assisting with trail maintenance, trail edge mowing, and trail construction..
  • Routinely fill doggie bag dispensers, empty trash receptacles, and clean one vault toilet.
  • Inspect and maintain all open space amenities including trailhead facilities, benches, underpasses, bridges, signs, kiosks, landscape beds, fences, etc. 
  • Operation of tractors, skid steer, backhoe, pick-up trucks, mowers, trailers, string line trimmers, chainsaw, ATV, backpack sprayers, and other equipment. May be required to make minor repairs or adjustments in the field.
  • Assist with volunteer projects and the Boulder County Youth Corps maintenance projects. 
  • Assist with and/or coordinate water conveyance from ditches and pipelines to fill the Warembourg fishing pond, Hecla Lake, and provide water to farm tenant. Maintain records and runs calculations to determine water usage.
  • Plant, prune, and maintain landscape beds.
  • Remove/Prune trees and vegetation obstructing trail use and visibility.
  • Assist with the assessment of hazardous trees, and remove fallen branches, and structures as needed.
  • Plow and remove snow on trails, parking lots, and sidewalks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist with the training and supervising of seasonal employee(s).
  • Inventory, and organize supplies/materials needed for specific day-to-day maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assist with Natural Resource management activities including native restoration, noxious weed control, and wildlife management as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Coordinate, manage, and assist with City provided programs when assigned.
  • Assist with developing community outreach materials and information pertaining to projects impacting the public.
  • Assist with Arc GIS mapping and data collection programs for use and maintenance of Open Space. 
  • Participate and apply City provided training. 
  • Demonstrate and promote City values.
  • Experience in Open Space field maintenance. 
  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource Management, Recreation Management, or related fields.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and willingness to apply occupational safety rules and practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in the safe operations of heavy equipment, hand tools, and trucks in rough, uneven, or slippery terrain.
  • Knowledge and experience with routine equipment maintenance.
  • Working knowledge and experience implementing:
  • trail maintenance and construction,,
  • landscape principles and practices,
  • ecological principals and Natural Resource management techniques,
  • noxious weed and native vegetation identification, 
  • Ability to think critically and make independent adjustments in the field as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals including the general public, city staff, contractors, volunteers, community boards, and children.
  • Ability to collect, interpret and manage data.
  • Experience using GIS/Arc View or Arc Map, Microsoft teams, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Power Point preferred.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to effectively assist in supervising seasonal staff members. 
  • Ability to understand and perform tasks as directed.
  • Ability to work within budget parameters.
SPECIAL LICENSE, REGISTRATION OR CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:
Possess and maintain Colorado Driver’s License with driving record in good standing for the last 3 years.
 
Must be at least 18 years old. Candidates will be required to complete and pass a pre-placement physical, background investigation, and positive reference checks prior to employment.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
Position requires ability to work outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions including rain, snow, heat and high winds; walk on uneven terrain for long periods of time. Perform strenuous hiking, standing, walking, sitting, digging, hammering, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Position works summer hours: field time 70%, office time 30%; winter hours: vary.
