City of Longwood (FL) is Hiring an Utilities Maintenance Specialist I Near Longwood, FL

Performs intermediate unskilled and semiskilled work in a variety of installation, maintenance and repair projects in the water distribution and waste water collections systems; occasionally operates non-specialized equipment in connection with manual tasks; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision in chain of command order; Utilities Field Supervisor and Deputy Director of Public Works & Utilities. Essential FunctionsThese are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Perform regular checks on various machinery throughout the plant or collection system. 
Operates dump truck, riding mower and other medium to heavy equipment, and a variety of hand tools associates with job duties. 
 
Documents work completed, including entering work orders. 
 
Prepare and initiate necessary work orders; schedule maintenance on a periodic basis. 
 
Changes meters, installs, repairs and pressure tests meters, reads meters. 
 
Responds to customer service calls; turns on or off water services when required. 
 
Helps install, maintain, and replace water mains and fire hydrants. 
 
Repairs and maintains lift stations, reads lift station meters, replaces floats and pumps. 
 
Pressure cleans inside water tanks, maintains water storage tanks. 
 
Cleans sewers, removes trees, and repairs irrigation systems. 
 
Helps build and repair streets, performs minor masonry work.
 
Inspect piping systems for leaks and corrosion, replaces where required, design and install piping modifications, as directed, to include changes or expansion of fire sprinkler system or sewer collection system. 
 
Use and operate personal computer to record and input work order information. 
 
Use and operate a wide variety of hand and power tools, equipment, machinery and vehicles. 
 
Lead, train, provide direction and instruct other employees as required. 
 
Responsible for the efficient and safe operation of work crews in various treatment plant and/or collection field operations. 
 
Work in confined space, above or underground; lift or carry parts or equipment weighing more than 50 pounds; and work around hazardous fumes and loud noises. 
 
Operate a wide variety of plant or collection system vehicles and specialized equipment such as dump truck, fork lift, vacuum pump, vactor, backhoe, jet rodder, boom truck, pump units, televised sewer line inspection equipment and emergency generators. 
 
Work within an established Asset Management Program. 
 
Maintain regular, predicable and punctual attendance during regular scheduled work hours as assigned work site. 
 
Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures in accordance with the City’s Safety and Health Program.
 
All employees will have a role in the City’s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts, as may be designated in the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
Additional Duties:
Performs related tasks as required.Graduation from High School or G.E.D. and some maintenance and/or construction experience. Possess a valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Must have or be able to complete ICS 100 and 700 courses within six (6) months of hire. Special Requirements

General knowledge of safe use, operation and preventative maintenance of the equipment to which assigned, skill in the use of hand tools and equipment to which assigned.
 
Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
 
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
 
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates. 

Technical Requirements

Ability to use standard office equipment, including multi-line telephones, personal computers, word processing and data base applications.

Working Conditions

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
 
Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping and feeling; also assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities.
 
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
 
Hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
 
Visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices.
 
The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards and atmospheric conditions.
