Performs a variety of vector control functions on behalf of the City’s Environmental Health Division; responds to vector related complaints from the public; identifies and abates disease vectors; prepares and maintains vector control records and documentation; and performs other related duties.Responds to vector related inquiries from the public; provides information and educates citizens regarding mosquito lifecycles, diseases transmitted, and methods of source reduction. Investigates vector complaints; surveys water areas and identifies vector breeding sites located on residential/commercial properties, streets, alleys, creeks, ditches, and flood plains. Traps, collects, tests, identifies, and documents vector organisms located within identified habitats and/or infestation areas; assists with epidemiological investigations as required. Treats mosquito habitats and areas of infestation; transfers minnows to areas of standing water; applies larvacide agents. Documents and reports daily spray activities including chemical quantities utilized, areas treated, and weather conditions; prepares and maintains maps for adulticide spraying areas. Performs general maintenance to mosquito control trucks and spray units; mixes and loads chemicals onto spray trucks. Coordinates the City’s vector adulticide-spraying program; monitors and ensures appropriate training is maintained for all licensed employees and seasonal staff. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.High School Diploma or equivalent combined with additional coursework in pest control or a closely related field, and one year vector control experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a Certified Pesticide Applicator License issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services or Texas Department of Agriculture is required within one year of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Exposure to variable weather conditions, vehicle traffic, noise from equipment operation, uneven terrain, animals/wildlife, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, and potentially irate members of the public is involved.
