Mental Health Board Member-Alternate
Pay: $125.00 per hearing session OR $125.00 per hour, whichever is greater, including mileage as provided by law.
 
 Position requires one of the following qualifications: Nebraska licensed physician, psychologist, psychiatric nurse, clinical social worker, independent clinical social worker, or an independent mental health practitioner, who is not a social worker.
 
 Description:
 Position is a four-year appointment by the Presiding Judge of Lancaster County District Court to the Lancaster County Mental Health Board. The appointed member will become qualified by successfully completing the Mental Health Board certification through the Lincoln/Lancaster County Department of Health and Human Services. Hearings are held at the Mental Health Crisis Center, 825 J St, Lincoln on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings unless moved due to holiday.
 
 The Mental Health Board members consists of a licensed attorney, a licensed, trained mental health professional, and a layperson. Mental Health Board members review law enforcement custodial placement of people taken into (emergency) protective custody when determined to be a danger to themselves or others. The Mental Health Board hears evidence to determine whether the hearing Subject is mentally ill and dangerous to themselves or others, and if so, determine the least restrictive treatment alternative for each Subject. The Board also conducts review hearings to regulate treatment progress and to determine whether the treatment orders are effective or whether a change in treatment alternative is appropriate.
