As a Building Maintenance Worker/Groundskeeper, you'll perform a variety of building maintenance and custodial duties, which could include: painting, plumbing, light electrical work, set-up/tear-down for meetings, snow removal, grounds maintenance, mowing and more! Primarily based at City Hall, you'll also have responsibilities for other City buildings and facilities.

• Maintain and repair assigned buildings and facilities, equipment, appliances and buildings by performing a variety of semi-skilled plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering, painting and mechanical repair work.
• Monitor the work of contract custodial personnel and report deficiencies.
• Prepare and set-up meeting rooms; move and arrange furniture and equipment as necessary; water plants.
• Open and secure assigned buildings and facilities.
• Monitor the operations of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system in assigned building; monitor and check mechanical and electrical equipment; reprogram energy management system as needed.
• Inventory and purchase custodial supplies and equipment as appropriate.
• Participate in a variety of light landscaping activities including shoveling snow, mowing, weed control and trimming shrubbery.
• Clean outside areas near building including the parking lot; pick up paper and other debris; sweep entrances.
• Perform other duties as needed to ensure quality municipal services for our citizens.

• Respond to requests and inquiries from customers and citizens in a professional, positive, friendly and helpful manner.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees.
• Prepare and present ideas that support overall goals of the department and City.
• Work independently in the absence of supervision.
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of essential duties including operating and maintaining assigned equipment.
• Maintain mental capacity which permits satisfactory performance of essential functions including decision-making, communication, teamwork and positive customer/citizen interactions and experiences.
• REJIS and CJIS certification must be obtained upon hire.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma, or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license.
• One to three years of experience in a variety of semi-skilled trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting or mechanical repair work strongly preferred.
• Additional specialized training in building trades maintenance and repair of related field is desirable, but not required.
