CITY OF LAREDO is Hiring a Landfill Spotter, (A242560-4), 203, Landfill Near Laredo, TX

Responsible for the safe, smooth traffic flow of vehicles at the working face of the landfill by enforcing publicly posted safety rules. Guides heavy equipment and dump trucks through landfill. Checks areas to inform scale house where to send truck loads. Screens waste and notifies scale house which loads need to be crushed immediately. Removes tires from waste and notifies scale house. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
  • Inspects loads entering the landfill and ensures waste is being disposed of in proper areas.
  • Directs vehicles to the proper area of the facility based on site fill plan.
  • Directs and communicates with trucks and vehicles in and out of the working area in all weather conditions.
  • Controls traffic flow in the event of emergency.
  • Follows all safety policies and rules including properly approaching vehicles; enforces publicly posted safety rules and un-posted safety standards.
  • Communicates with customers, scale house, and equipment operators regarding incoming loads of waste or other issues as they arise.
  • Performs general labor duties including site clean-up, yard work, and building maintenance as needed.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
