CITY OF LAREDO is Hiring a Juvenile Case Manager, (A241400-4), 207, Municipal Court Near Laredo, TX

Works with juveniles and parents to prevent recurrences of Class C misdemeanor offenses and determines a plan of action that will deter juveniles from committing higher offenses as an adult.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Supervises community service programs at court and in the field throughout the year, including monitoring attendance and tracking and verifying of service hours.
  • Assists the court in administering the court’s juvenile docket and in supervising the court’s orders in juvenile cases.
  • Gathers, summarizes, and maintains statistic data for the juvenile court.
  • Establishes and monitors teen court program.
  • Creates and implements internal programs for juveniles and parents relating to: rehabilitation, counseling, self-esteem and leadership, work and job skills, job interviewing and work interviewing and work preparation; self-improvement, parenting, manners, violence avoidance, tutoring, sensitivity training, parental responsibility, community service, restitution, advocacy and mentoring.
  • Interprets court orders.
  • Keeps the judge informed with any information or case recommendations relevant to assisting the judge in making a decision that is in the best interest of the child.
  • Researches and facilitates court programs and classes.
  • Assists in supervising teen court participants during formal teen court proceedings.
  • Provides prevention services to a child considered at risk of entering the juvenile justice system.
  • Provides intervention services to juveniles engaged in misconduct before case is filed.
  • Acts as liaison between local agencies regarding the functions and operations of the Laredo Municipal Court Juvenile Case Management Program and other programs associated with juvenile court referrals.
  • Receives, reviews, coordinates, and replies to correspondence submitted by operating agencies.
  • Updates NCIC/TCIC databases with warrant records and conviction records to DPS.
  • Review National Crime Information Center, Texas Crime Information Center, Texas Department of Public Safety, (NCIC/TCIC/DPS) databases for criminal histories, warrant records and driving records.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of available juvenile programs, be able to establish and maintain working relationships with different agencies that offer programs and/or services for juveniles.

  • Ability to speak, explain and guide juveniles and parents through different programs and services.
  • Ability to be organized in order to keep record and be able to monitor and follow up on court orders to completion of programs and services.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
  • Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
  • Ability to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of this position.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited* college or university in Social Services, Criminal Justice, or related field.

  • At least two (2) years of experience in case management, social work, counseling, or related field.

*Council of Higher Education Accreditation (C.H.E.A.) 

Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.

Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
