City of Laguna Beach is Hiring a Maintenance Worker I Near CA 92651, CA

A 4% Cost of Living Increase is scheduled for 07/01/2024. 
The City of Laguna Beach is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the new position of Maintenance Worker I in our Transit and Community Services Department in the Parking Division. This position reports to an assigned Supervisor. As a Maintenance Worker I in the Parking Division, you will be responsible for supporting the City’s paid parking operations by maintaining parking lots, pay stations and parking meters, collecting revenue, and providing excellent customer service to residents and visitors.
Schedule: This position may be required to work weekends, with a schedule that could include Wednesdays through Sundays.

The normal duties for this position can be found in the job description for Maintenance Worker I. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Provides assistance in the minor service and repair work of City parking meters and machines.
  • Collects revenue, ensuring trustworthy handling of funds.
  • Prepares bank deposits related to revenue collection.
  • Performs basic data entry for computer record-keeping purposes.
  • Communicates with third-party vendors to coordinate the repair of parking equipment.
  • Conducts field labor activities, including repairing or replacing parking equipment, installing signage, cleaning meters and pay stations, and installing meter posts.
  • Assists with troubleshooting electric vehicle charging stations and collaborates with third-party vendors for necessary repairs.
  • Provides customer service by assisting the public with parking payments.

Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:
 
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
 
Experience: At least two (2) years of general maintenance or repair work; or equivalent experience with the City as a Maintenance Worker. Municipal government experience is also desirable. Previous experience maintaining parking meters or pay stations is highly desirable.
 
License/Certificate Requirements: Due to the performance of some field duties, which may require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

Application/Selection Process: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with a first review on  May 7, 2024. Applications will be screened carefully and selected applicants will be invited to participate in the Structured Panel Interview. The appointing hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions. The selection process may be modified based on the needs of the City.
 
Pre-Placement Process: The selected candidate must successfully pass a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice, a pre-placement physical and drug test, educational and employment verification, and reference check(s).
