Bus Driver

General Statement of Job
Essential Functions
Operates a passenger bus. Assumes responsibility for the safety of the children in loading, unloading and transporting them this includes making sure all passengers are safely seated.
Inspect and complete pre-trip & post-trip checklists to include but not limited to; exterior of the bus, lights, tires, windshield wipers, oil and brakes.
Observe the speed limit and obey road signs. Exercise care and safety in the use of assigned vehicles. Drive carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.
Instructs children in safety precautions and practices. Regulates heating and ventilation of bus for comfort of passengers.
Performs simple vehicle maintenance before each trip, such as filling gas tank, cleaning exterior and interior, taking vehicle for Preventative Maintenance when required.
Notifies supervisor of any issues, damage or accidents.
Prepares and submits various logs, records and reports as required.
Drivers may not have more than one moving violation in a 6 years span. Any moving violation must be reported to immediate supervisor.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent by one to two years of experience driving a bus with passengers. Must possess First Aid / CPR Certifications.
Must possess a valid Florida Class B CDL with passenger endorsements and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license.
Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.

Scheduled as needed and may require working a rotating schedule.
Physical Requirements : Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a computer, basic office equipment, telephone, fitness equipment, sound equipment, etc.
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds) to moderately heavy weight (up to 50 pounds).
Works primarily in an office environment. Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Language Ability : Requires ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, technical manuals, equipment manual, etc.
Requires the ability to prepare reports, records, etc., with proper format. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions;
to counsel and teach employees. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and / or professional languages including health / fitness programming, marketing.
Requires the ability to talk and hear : (talking : expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing : perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
Form / Spatial Aptitude : Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
Knowledge of Job : Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Parks, Recreation & Public Facilities Department as they pertain to the performance of duties as a Bus Driver.
Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
Is able to make sound, educated decisions. Has the ability to plan and develop daily, short- and long-term goals related to City purposes.
Has the ability to plan and coordinate the most effective use of personnel, facilities and resources to achieve department goals.
Is able to supervise and evaluate the work of others. Has the ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods and regulations.
Is able to perform employee evaluations and to make recommendations based on results.
Has the ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Is able to read and interpret complex materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
Is able to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and records in a concise, clear and effective manner.
Has knowledge of the terminology used within the department. Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation.
Has the ability to communicate professionally in confrontational situations. Knows how to make public presentations. Has thorough knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, spelling and basic mathematics.
Has thorough knowledge of modern office practices and technology. Has knowledge of and skill in the use of computers for data and word processing.
Has knowledge of the standard equipment, tools, materials and practices of the industry. Has skill in the care and use of required tools and equipment.
Has knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
