Job Summary 

Develop, organize, analyze, and disseminate information relative to department needs. Provide analysis and research on crime patterns and trends to provide operational units with support data for effective patrol patterns and for the prevention and investigation of crimes.
 
Principal Accountabilities 
  • The collection, organization, and analysis of information. 
  • Analysis and research of crime patterns and trends.
  • The dissemination of that information to appropriate authority.
Essential Responsibilities 
  • Data collection, organization, and analysis: 
    • Search automated and other records for information on suspect identification, crime patterns, stolen/pawned property, and other information as requested.
      • Create and maintain computer data bases using spreadsheets and various statistical applications to compile, store, and manipulate crime data.
      • Review, research, and analyze police crime case reports, offender profiles, and other relevant data using surveys, quantitative analysis and qualitative assessments.
      • Identify evolving or existent crime patterns by geographical area and by time and ascertain statistical probabilities.
  • Data dissemination: 
    • Prepare bulletins, reports, and recommendations as required.
    • Respond to requests for investigative assistance information from operational units or personnel.
    • Respond to requests for statistical information and reports from the media, other law enforcement agencies, or from business and citizen groups.
    • Provide community policing and geographic deployment statistics and reports to the Patrol Division.
    • Prepare statistical summaries, UCR reports, and periodic special reports, as needed.
    • Coordinate crime information gathering and analysis with other law enforcement agencies in the region.
  • Conduct periodic citizen surveys to provide information on public perceptions of crime and the effectiveness of the department.
 
Additional Duties 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attends inter-departmental meetings as directed and disseminates information.
  • Principles and methods of statistical analysis, including multivariate analysis.
  • Research principles and techniques such as surveys, quantitative analysis, and qualitative assessments.
  • Basic police methods and procedures.
  • Computer applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and statistics.
  • Principles and practices of technical report writing.
  • Prepare detailed statistical reports.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications 
Two years of analytical or technical experience related to law enforcement. Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in statistics, management, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field. Must be able to obtain a police security clearance including polygraph, psychological and background prior to hire.Working Conditions 
Works independently. Work is performed in an office setting. May require long periods of time working at a computer work station.
