Description
The City of Kennewick is looking for two detail-oriented journeyman-level candidates who take pride in their work by maintaining City Facilities and Parks Infrastructure throughout our community.
The ideal candidate must enjoy working both indoors and outdoors, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
The two vacancies may be filled in either Irrigation or Facilities Services.

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, a General Craftsworker Parks and Facilities performs a variety of work, including equipment operation, maintenance, repair, and construction in the Parks & Facilities Department.
Performs related work as required. Work hours are varied and include evenings and weekends.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
A General Craftsworker Parks & Facilities performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and general work in one of the divisions of the Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department and may be temporarily assigned to other Departments within the City as required.
Must possess the skills, knowledge, and physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position and must comply with City and Department policies, procedures, and work methods at all times.
A General Craftsworker - Parks & Facilities must demonstrate the ability to perform journeyman-level work in facilities maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC.
Must demonstrate an ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Must plan the details necessary to carry out assignments, to use considerable initiative in identifying and resolving problems.
Performs related work and weekend and / or overtime work as required.
A General Craftsworker is distinguished from a lower-level Maintenance and Construction Craftsworker by acting in a lead capacity, possessing greater technical skills and knowledge, and performing more difficult and / or complex tasks.
A General Craftsworker serves in a lead capacity and is expected to guide the work of Maintenance and Construction Craftsworkers, and may train, supervise, and direct the work of part-time or seasonal workers.
A General Craftsworker may be required to perform any work ordinarily performed by Maintenance and Construction Craftsworkers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER DIVISION
Irrigation & Pesticide Specialist : Works from pencil sketches, oral instruction and blueprints. Installs and maintains water supply lines, valves, low voltage wiring, and controllers on all irrigation systems used by the City in conformance with applicable building code requirements.
Selects and applies any pesticides and fertilizer used by the City. Installs and maintains irrigation pumps and main lines as needed.
Reads working drawings to estimate materials, determine work aids and equipment needed, and to determine proper sequence of installations.
Performs preventive maintenance checks to determine necessary repairs. Trains and supervises assigned personnel in standard repair and maintenance procedures.
Operates equipment including backhoe, loader and trencher, and other tools necessary to accomplish assignments. Prepares and submits various reports.
Performs related work as required.
Facility Services : Inspects conditional and operational functions and performs routine maintenance and repair tasks in one or more fields including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC for facility improvements and systems for the Parks & Facilities division.
Performs qualified electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (including incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballasts, fuses, etc.
using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools. Performs qualified plumbing maintenance repairs. Performs qualified painting, carpentry, and masonry work.
Maintains the City's keying and lock systems. Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices to accommodate user needs and to maximize work space using various hand, power, and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks.
Orders parts and maintains required documents. Trains and provides oversight for assigned personnel in standard repair, maintenance, and safety procedures.
Performs related work as required.

Employment Standards
possess or obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within twelve (12) months of employment based division standards (see below).
ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the general public and fellow employees; ability to lead and supervise personnel in lower classifications.
Additional Requirements per Division :
Irrigation : Commercial Driver's License, CDL Class B, Back-Flow Assembly Tester, and Washington State Pesticide License (PCL), Public Operator, with one of the following endorsements : Pest Control Operator (PCO) and either Turf & Ornamental (OW) or Turf & Ornamental Insect & Disease (OC);
all certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire).
Facilities Services : Journeyman card in a related field OR at least four (4) years of verified journeyman-level experience OR completion of a City vocational training program.
Commercial Driver's License, CDL Class B, Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification; Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification;
all certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire).
Supplemental Requirements
ability to walk and stand for long periods of time; must be able to work outdoors under adverse and varied weather conditions.
