City of Issaquah is Hiring an Aquatics Recreation Leader Near Issaquah, WA

The City of Issaquah has an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit, fun, and community-oriented team as an Aquatics Recreation Leader at the Julius Boehm Pool! The City of Issaquah has long recognized our Parks & Community Services department as an integral part of the City and essential to the quality of life of its residents.
 
The Aquatics Recreation Leader position oversees and provides instruction for a variety of aquatic recreational programs, classes, and events. The work includes program innovation, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position involves a high level of public contact and requires excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, and superb and consistent customer service.
 
The Aquatics Recreation Leader position organizes and implements planned programs and contribute to program design; however, primary focus of the work is planning, organization, and implementation. Responsibilities are well-defined and support the activities and programs in specific programmatic areas and facilities. The Aquatics Recreation Leader direct the work of assigned part-time staff and contractors and have responsibility for oversite of daily operations and logistics. The Aquatics Recreation Leader cultivates customer and business relationships, build loyalty, and increase participation. Work is performed independently and within established policy.
 
This position is 40 hours per week, but schedule may vary - Monday- Friday, Tuesday- Saturday or Sunday-Thursday - based on supervisor discretion. Some flexibility is needed.

Working Conditions
Work may be physically demanding and require walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds. The Aquatics Recreation Leader climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Organizes and implements recreational programs and services; oversees and manages daily operations, activities and logistics. 
  • Schedules, organizes and coordinates the work of assigned support staff. 
  • Recruits, hires trains, and motivates non-regular and volunteer staff. 
  • Provides leadership and supervision for part-time staff and volunteers. 
  • Makes work assignments and monitors work performance for assigned staff and contractors, assists with performance evaluation and performance counseling. 
  • Cultivates customer and business relationships, obtains program feedback and builds participation. 
  • Maintains and tracks metrics and data regarding program interests and participation. 
  • Assists with preparing and monitoring the program budget, maintains records of revenue and expenditures. 
  • May provide support to and participate on various committees or boards. 
  • Instructs classes in swim lessons, water safety, water aerobics, or other classes/events. May oversee and coordinate the work of part time instructors and other support staff.
  • Assists with curriculum planning and developing specific activities; implements program plans and makes recommendations for new activities. 
  • Oversee operations of the pool as needed. 
  • Provide customer service at the front desk. 
  • Ensures proper behavior on the part of program participants; takes disciplinary action as needed; responds quickly to potentially hazardous situations and accidents. 
  • Coordinates programs and special-event planning and evaluation. 
  • Coordinates program activities with other agencies and jurisdictions as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Education & Training
 
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in recreation, human services, or related field; and
  • two or more years of progressively responsible related experience in recreation programming or a related area; or
  • any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 Other Requirements
 
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to swim and sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to see and hear and tolerate loud environments.
 Licensing and Certifications
 
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with driving record free of serious or frequent violations.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Instructors Certificate or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Valid American Red Cross certification in lifeguarding, or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Within one year, must obtain: Lifeguard Instructor Certification, Water Aerobics Certification.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Practices related to Parks and Community Services programming and services.
    • First aid and safety practices.
    • Effective instructional methods and techniques.
    • Organization, procedures, and operating details of the Julius Boehm Pool Facility.
  • Skill in:
    • Using computers and applicable software programs.
  • Ability to:
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
    • Train and provide direction to others in recreational activities.
    • Keep records.
    • Express and relate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Learn the principles, practices and methods of planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating recreational programming and services.
