Identification

Current Title Seasonal Maintenance Worker – Part-Time

Department Public Works

Division Streets and Drainage/Traffic

FLSA Non-Exempt

Salary/Pay Rate  Up to $19.15 hourly

Job Summary

Performs duties necessary to support the Streets and Drainage Division or the Traffic Division to ensure the proper construction, repair and maintenance of streets, roadways, storm drainage systems and right of ways.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Arrives on time prepared to work the assigned schedule.
  2. Works overtime and standby as needed
  3. Shovels asphalt from back of dump truck.
  4. Moves, lifts, loads and unloads various equipment and tools to and from work trucks.
  5. Cleans and repairs drainage systems including weed control.
  6. Operates and performs service and minor maintenance on equipment.
  7. Responds in a professional manner to all customer complaints.
  8. Maintain worksite safety including the safety of co-workers and the general public 
  9. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate.
  10. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  11. Availability to operate in the Standby On-Call Rotation as scheduled.
  12. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
  13. Adheres to Hurst’s Code of Ideals and The Hurst Way. 

When assigned to Streets Division:

  1. Repairs and resurfaces streets.
  2. Fabricates and installs various types of signs and road marking.
  3. Assists with bulb and LED changes.
  4. Digs holes with posthole digger.
  5. Trims trees as necessary.
  6. Sets cones and other related traffic objects out in the road; directs traffic as necessary.

When assigned to Traffic Division:

  1. Assists Engineering Division in traffic studies, counts, speed surveys, and signal timing.
  2. Performs annual preventative maintenance program on traffic signal equipment.
  3. Performs bench checks, repairs, and inspection on electronic components and signal devices.
  4. Maintains inspection files and traffic signal records up-to-date.
  5. Performs field repairs on all types of traffic signal equipment.
  6. Assists in all phases of traffic signs and markings programs.
  7. Performs maintenance and installation of Fire Opticom.
  8. Performs daily tasks on the personal computer WORK Order System.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to learn to repair streets with concrete and asphalt.
  • Ability to read and follow safety rules, City rules and codes, and instruction on proper use of chemicals.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions to complete an assigned job.
  • Ability to work and communicate with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect.
  • Physical ability and coordination to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Ability to learn to operate and service related standard transmission equipment.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including standing, bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, twisting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time in adverse conditions, including extreme heat, cold, moisture, dust, and fumes, at various heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work any day of the week (weekends and weekdays) and long hours.

Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements

Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Must have regular and punctual attendance, flexibility to work overtime and respond to emergency situations during non-scheduled work hours.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and essential job function screening.

Department must review/adjust physical and working conditions as needed.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to disagreeable environmental factors, including all temperatures when working outside.
