City of Huntington Beach is Hiring a RECREATION LEADER (Entry, Journey) - AQUATICS Near Huntington, CA

This is Part Time, Non Permanent position
 
Here in Huntington Beach, we believe passionately that the key to becoming the best beach City in the world starts and ends with finding the right people to join our team. At this time, we have outstanding opportunities available, as we're looking for the "right people" to serve as Recreation Leader in aquatics with the Community and Library Services Department.
 
Please Note: Vacancies for these positions occur sporadically. The hiring department will contact applicants as needed.
Current vacancies are at the City Gym & Pool. These assignments are for individuals interested in training to potentially become Lifeguards and/or Water Safety Instructors. Lifeguard & Water Safety Instructor positions at a range of $16.57 - $24.53 hourly. Training dates for 2024 are as follows:
  • Lifeguarding:
    • April 20th & April 21st
    • More dates will be added as needed
  • Water Safety Instructor: 
    • February 17th & 18th
    • February 24th & 25th
    • June 1st & 2nd
    • August 24th & 25th
Ideal candidates must possess effective and cooperative communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to relate to a diverse group of people.
 
Hours worked per week may vary and may include evenings and weekends.
Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 – June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.
Under supervision, provides program information, customer service both in person and over the telephone, may collect fee or donations for recreation programs, perform equipment set-up and break-down; and perform a variety of routine and semi-skilled tasks including but not limited to the following:
Respond to customer inquiries, provide information regarding community programs; register customers for recreational activities, plan, direct and coordinate activities and special events.
Individuals in this assignment will also receive training in the following areas:
How to conduct swimming lessons and lifesaving classes; how to provide lifeguarding duties, patrol pool decks, and assist pool manager/aquatics supervisor in the total safety of pool operation, and other related work. Education & Experience: Some high school and previous experience or related training required. Volunteer service or school-related experience is accepted and should be reflected in the application.
Certifications:
  • CPR/First Aid Certificates must be obtained within three months of appointment.
