Requires a high degree of skill in operation of light and heavy-duty mechanized equipment. Preferred experience in construction and/or experience in pouring & finishing of concrete curbs & sidewalks and various masonry & carpentry work. Requires a highschool diploma or GED. Commercial Driver’s License preferred but must obtain within probationary period.

Operates light duty equipment such as flatbed pick-ups, riding mowers and small tractors.
Knowledge of the installation of culverts, sidewalks, and other masonry projects is required.
Responsible for daily preventive maintenance and minor repair of vehicles. This includes changing or reporting of flats, maintenance of fluid levels, light and fuse replacement, and clean up of equipment and vehicles.
Performance of unskilled work to complete a work order such as the use of a pick and shovel, wheelbarrow, and clean up of construction areas is expected and considered a normal activity.
Ability to use a compressor and air hammer to break concrete and pavement is required.
Performs the setting of construction forms and finishing of concrete.
Manual labor such as litter control during public activities and street closures through the placement of barriers is expected.
Performs such tasks as street repair, mowing, grass and weed trimming, and cleanup of areas within the city that may have been abandoned or overgrown.
Must be able to climb, crouch, and crawl during the normal construction process of various projects and possibly enter confined spaces.
Must be physically capable to perform all duties on a continual basis during exposure to extreme heat, humidity, and cold weather conditions.
Knowledge of traffic laws, statutes, and ordinances affecting the departments operations.
Knowledge of construction methods and ability to use tools and light construction equipment is needed to perform satisfactorily in this position.
Strength and agility to perform semi-skilled or unskilled tasks relating to this job.
Ability to recognize, detect, and troubleshoot equipment defects or malfunctions.
Familiarity of job hazards and safety procedures must be evident.
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions with limited supervision.
Accomplish other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License within probationary period.
