City of Hollywood, Florida is Hiring a Summer Intern - City Manager's Office Near Hollywood, FL

The City of Hollywood, Florida is seeking a Summer Intern to work in the City Manager's Office. This is a part-time professional internship for the duration of May 15, 2024 through August 15, 2024 working 20 hours per week. This is for the graduate student with at least 12 hours of relevant coursework or undergraduate with a minimum of 72 credit hours of coursework completed in public administration, business administration, urban planning, or related field. 
The position provides the intern with the opportunity to work with senior management through various special projects and assignments. The Summer Intern position involves research and analytical work on an entry-level professional basis using various research techniques and methods. The intern will be given work assignments involving a wide variety of opportunities and challenges facing the City of Hollywood and also assist with constituent requests.
The successful applicant will be motivated, self-initiating, and able to take on new challenges with skill and enthusiasm. This position is designed to develop the leadership and technical skills of the intern as well as hands on experience in local government.
Eligible students will be either graduate students with at least 12 hours of relevant coursework or undergraduate students with a minimum of 60% (72 credit hours) of coursework completed in public administration, business administration, urban planning, or related field.
Applications must include one academic recommendation and one personal or professional recommendation. Preference will also be given to those applicants who have community involvement through university-sponsored organizations of public service chapters (e.g., ICMA, FCCMA, NFBPA).
The intern is expected to attend the FCCMA conference, paid for by the City of Hollywood, held at the Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando from May 29 - June 1, 2024.
The successful candidate must possess strong writing and research skills, a courteous and helpful demeanor, a valid driver's license and be ability to pass a background check.
Top candidates will proceed to an interview with City Management.All successful applicants will be required to pass an extensive background which may include criminal history searches, driving history checks, credit report, courthouse searches, education verification, employment verification, professional license verification, or other search methods as deemed necessary for the position. In addition, the applicant will be required to undergo a medical examination, which may include a drug screening, prior to appointment.
 
Employment of Relatives: The City of Hollywood has an Ordinance which regulates the employment of relatives of City employees. Effective January 28, 2008, a relative may only be hired under the following additional conditions:
  • The relative must have competed in an appropriate examination process as determined by Human Resources and be placed on a civil service eligibility list;
  • The relative must be among the top three ranked candidates available on the certified eligibility list unless expanded by the Civil Service Board;
  • The Department or Office Director and the Director, Human Resources must demonstrate that it is in the best interests of the City of Hollywood to hire the relative of a public officer or employee.
As of 12/15/2005 the City will require all newly hired employees to sign an affidavit affirming non-usage of tobacco or tobacco products within the last year prior to submission of application and will continue to be a non-user of tobacco products throughout employment with the City of Hollywood.
