Essential Functions

CITY OF HENDERSON, KENTUCKY
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: AQUATICS SUPERVISOR
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform chemical monitoring and routine maintenance of the city aquatic facilities and manage the operations of the municipal swimming pool.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Provides direction, guidance, and assistance to assigned employees; provides training as needed.
  • Consults with assigned staff to review work requirements, status, and issues; assists with complex or problem situations.
  • Assists in organizing workload and making work assignments; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work.
  • Manages staff scheduling and facilities utilization.
  • Patrols city pool and related facilities; monitors activities in swimming areas to provide assistance to swimmers, prevent accidents, and detect hazardous conditions such as disturbances or safety infractions.
  • Administers first aid and CPR as necessary.
  • Enforces safety rules/regulations and maintains order in swimming areas; cautions facility users against inappropriate conduct such as drinking or fighting; alleviates minor disputes between facility users.
  • Cleans and backwashes filters; cleans and refills chlorine feeders; replaces acid drums; replaces chemical lines as needed; and checks for leaks.
  • Maintains skills in hazardous chemical use and handling for chemicals used in pool operations, including hydrochloric acid, muriatic acid, calcium hypochlorite, and sodium bicarbonate.
  • Assists with performing and assigning custodial and maintenance tasks necessary to operate and maintain swimming facilities; inspects facilities for cleanliness; cleans, fills, and vacuum pools; removes debris from pool areas; cleans bathrooms; refills paper and supplies.
  • Perform tests on water samples of municipal pool and splash pads to identify water content including chlorine, alkalinity, and acidity; makes minor chemical adjustments as needed.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and tools associated with swimming facilities operations; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment for replacement.
  • Receives, prepares, and or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate.
  • Communicates via telephone; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service or assistance.
  • Responds to complaints and questions related to swimming facility operations; provides information, researches problems, and initiates problem resolution.
  • Communicates with Recreation Program Manager, employees, other departments facility users, officials, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate activities review status of activities, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Reports emergencies, maintenance issues, and any other pertinent information in a timely manner to the Recreation Program Manager.
  • Inventories cleaning supplies, first aid supplies, and concession stock; orders items as needed.
  • Manage petty cash and acquires change from the city building when needed.
  • Counts daily deposit money and inspects daily paperwork; delivers deposits to parks office during business hours and secures in safe afterhours.
  • Maintains regular and predictable in person attendance during regular business hours of municipal pool.
  • Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two years technical/vocational training in aquatics. Must have the ability to obtain lifeguard certification. Current lifeguard instructor (LGI) and certified pool operator (CPO) preferred. Must possess and maintain valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to start, stop, operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
